☆ Sanding
Don’t worry about dust and mess. Our machines have a unique system that collects dust outside your property – ensuring sanding that is almost dustfree. We use papers of different grades to strip and then smooth the surface to bare wood.
The surface must be level for the even application of sealant:
For corners and awkward areas, we use edging sanders and hand tools.
☆ A coloured floor?
Once the floor has been sanded down to smooth boards or blocks, you may want it coloured to match your decor.
We can stain for any look from traditional browns to modern washed white, lime or blue.
☆ Resealing
The final stage is to apply a protective finish for hard wear and beauty. Choose from natural oil, hardwax oil or acquer. We use modern products of the highest quality from the most reputable companies.
They not only look better but last longer – and provide the best long term value. Many are water-based and therefore environmentally safe and non-toxic – quite safe for children and pets.
We can demonstrate the qualities of the various sealants to you – to help you decide on those most appropriate for your floor’s location and likely use. So don’t allow your floors to languish a day longer.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR WOODEN FLOORS IN SPARKLING CONDITION DURING WINTER
Hardwood floors look great and add a feel of real class to any room they’re used in. However, as with anything made of genuine, high-quality timber, changes in the weather – and in particular, the temperature – can have an effect. With that in mind, here are our tips for keeping your floor in great condition during the winter.
Don't Under-estmate floor mats
One of the biggest problems with wooden floors in winter is all the bad weather that people bring in with them. Having a good quality floor mat at the door can actually make a big difference: they'll be able to catch that slush and sleet and prevent you treading it into the floor (be sure, though, to give your mat a regular clean and to keep it as dry as possible).
Be Ready To Spot Clean
It's always worth keeping a wet and dry vacuum or even some soft towels nearby so you can quickly mop up any stains (or any weather the cat's brought in). It's important to remember that timber will slowly absorb anything that's left to fester, so the earliest you clean up any spills the better.
Avoid Using Salt
If you live in a particularly icy climate, then it's possible you use salt to help keep your driveway clear of snow, sleet and frost. This is understandable; it's a dirt cheap way of not skidding around when you try to drive in. However, that salt can have a corrosive effect on wooden floors without you even realising it. See, your footwear inevitably picks up traces of the salt, and before you know it you've trodden the salt into the flooring (another reason to invest in a good doormat).
The first step in the restoration process normally involves repairing any damaged timbers; the next step is to fill in gaps, using carefully chosen resins. Following these preparatory activities, we perform a quality floor sanding, smoothing the floor and creating a stain-free, even surface that's ready for staining and finishing.
The sanding we carry out consists of three phases: an initial sand with a coarser grain to remove grime, stains and other imperfections, followed by the use of medium and fine sanding surfaces.
These smooth the floor beautifully, providing an ideal surface for colour and sealant application. Because our wood floor restoration process is a thorough one, our Rochester clients end up with high-grade, long-lasting results that are beautiful to look at and designed to last.
Keep your footwear racked up
A parquet floor consists of a number of small wooden blocks, arranged in a geometric pattern. A favourite in larger rooms for generations (school halls, ballrooms and similar), parquet is also a common feature in hallways across the country. As time goes by and your parquet floor begins to lose its lustre, we can give it the treatment it needs to bring it back up to standard. We use specialist equipment to gently buff your floor, bringing up the original pattern and restoring the shine without compromising the original pattern and workmanship. Working on parquet floors is a time-consuming task, but we feel the effort involved is worth it when you see the effect that skilled parquet flooring restoration can give. If you've got a parquet floor that's been neglected for a number of years, perhaps hidden under carpet or otherwise ignored, we have the expertise to sort it out. Many people are amazed by how floor finishing at an affordable price can turn their parquet into an attractive feature that not only improves their interior, but is also a selling feature should the decision be taken to put the property on the market.
